Fund-A-Need #1: Goal $15,000
After-School Programs: This year, we initiated our first formal after-school program—a photography course with National Geographic photographer Eric Guth. We were not sure if our students would be interested. Within a few days, the course was full, and 14 students signed up to explore around the islands, and learn about the art of photography, focusing on seven themes: Air in motion, Geometry, Soft - Contrast, Primordial - Jurassic, Rustic, Wild Things, and Perspective. It is clear that many of our students and families are craving holistic programming. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to fund up to three extracurricular options for our students; this might include photography, music, cooking, sustainability, coding, gardening, an evening speaker series, or a kayaking club. Funds will go towards paying a course instructor and buying appropriate supplies, gear, and equipment to facilitate these extracurricular activities.
Fund-A-Need #2: Goal $50,000
Tuition Assistance: Every child is unique and deserves a unique school experience. This is what Spring Street provides. Each year, we set aside $350,000 in tuition assistance to local families who cannot afford the full cost of a Spring Street education. As an independent, nonprofit school, 80% of our income, which predominantly comes from tuition, goes towards salaries, health insurance, and retirement for our faculty. The remaining 20% primarily goes towards rent, mortgage, and lots of copy paper. Given how much of our money goes to supporting our basic operating costs, we need fundraising events like this one to sustain our tuition assistance needs. You won’t get a Kenmore Air flight voucher or a catered dinner for raising your paddle. But you will get the joy of knowing your donation helps make a Spring Street education possible.
